Finding the right place at the right price is
everyone's aim, but achieving it is another matter. Leave yourself as much
time as possible, but be ready to accept that no place will be perfect in
all aspects, and often it is only after living somewhere that you realise
its advantages and disadvantages.
There is no shortage of rented accommodation in France,
and there is no shortage of agencies willing to charge you handsomely for
finding it for you. Deposits tend to be about 2/3 months' rent – much
higher than in the UK, and you will probably be asked to give proof that
you can pay – previous payslips for example. This makes it rather hard if
you have only just arrived from abroad... try to stay with a friend at
first if at all possible, to give yourself plenty of time before
committing yourself to a rent.
