Getting married in France cannot be done at the drop of a hat: numerous
documents are required, which may well take some time to get hold of - so
don't leave it to the last minute!
Here is a list of the documents that are normally required:
> a birth certificate
> valid identity papers (ID card or passport)
> declaration by the future spouses of their domicile, their place of
residence, and that they are single
> premarital certificate dated less than two months at the date of the
marriage certifying that (s)he has been examined with a view to getting
married
> the surnames, first names, ages, professions and domiciles of the
witnesses
> if one of the future spouses is foreign, the latter must provide, among
other documents, a birth certificate translated into French by a sworn
translator
> the list of witnesses (at least 2) issued by the town hall
Foreign nationals must contact their nearest consulate for information
about specific requirements relating to their nationality. The British
consulate in Paris is able to provide all information required by British
nationals, and requests for the specific documents required can be made on
